about

This is a song about a baby bird fluttering and squawking up in our tree porch in Bonafide, Isla Ometepe, Nicaragua. There are millions of Uraka parrots they are quite obnoxious but terribly beautiful. They look a lot like the green and red Quetzalcoatl parrots that are the national symbol of Guatemala. Instead of iridescent red and green the Uraka are mostly a dark but shimmering blue, with a white underbelly and black head markings. Their plumage is probably up to two or three feet long. It seems they never make the same noise twice, whether it be sweet and intricate melody or a painful guttural screech. The little baby bird I wrote this song to had been abandoned by its mother. We tried to keep it alive for a couple of days. Without the constant care of a mama bird, the young Uraka got eaten by one of the big scary jungle creatures, ( the farm owners Dalmatian.)
The first half is in very simple Spanish and the second is in English. The english is not a translation of the first part but I will translate for you!

lyrics

Traigo mis alas - I Bring my Wings
Por vivir encima el ritmico de vuelo To live on the Rhythm of Flight
El ritmico que es alementando The rhythm that is feeding
Los huesos de mi vida The bones of my life
El ritmico es la respira de mi vida The rhythm is the breath of my life
Con mis alas levantare' With my wings I will rise
Lejos de mi duda Far from my doubt
Y mas arriba, arriba arriba And higher higher higher!
Arriba! Up!
A encontrar que duerme en mi alma To find what sleeps in my soul
Y que los otros me cantan And what the others sing
Le cantan a me They sing to me

And oh you have come to me again
Lost in your words, lost in the sun
Eyes glued to the cycle that you run
Playfully pacing in the gulley you've become

Take up the ruffles from the edges
Dry your skirts from the dredges
And climb and stride to the ridges to the ridges

And oh we will gaze upon the light
Crescendo-ing and fading symmetrical with our delight
Coming into our new skin
Unfolding in the moments we have to unwind

Can it bring us to the heights our love floats along?
Ever there for us to draw upon
Its a waxing and waining
Wings wings wings in the sun
Wings to live on
Wings whirring in the Sun
